One of the greatest substances known to mankind: Yes! paste. This jar of awesome is to collage what wine is to cheese.

I've been making mixed media, collage ATC's (artist trading cards) this week and this stuff makes everything lay flat and smooth. No wrinkling! It's thicker, sort of like Vaseline, but after swishing around the surface, it's easy to fill a whole brush and spread it easily over paper. I also love the enthusiastic punctuation of it's name and logo :)

Suffice it to say, it's good stuff. The only down side is that I had to buy it from an actual "art" store in Rochester. I have boycotted art stores for years. Why? Well, each one discouraged me from working there on my summer/college breaks, because they wanted "serious art majors from RIT "working there. Apparently my school, The Cleveland Institute of Art, was not a serious art school??!! But whatever. I sucked it up for you Yes! paste, cos you're worth it and actually the art store people were reeeeaaallly nice to me this time, so I forgive.

* For those of you wondering how I managed to make art without "art supplies"...the greatest art supply store, in my humble opinion is...wait for it...Home Depot (or Lowes or even better, a local hardware store) I'm also a fan of tacky craft stores, because well...I really like glitter.

My Treasury Week

I've been in some really great treasuries recently and thought I'd share. Click on the links to see each image larger and visit individual shops :)

This week is my spring break from teaching, so I can really get on the boat with this one by Duncan Creative, one of my RNEST street team buddies.

Raising The Bar

Getting ready for spring AND Mayday! Underground Crafts + Art, here is a treasury including folks who will be vending at the event April 30th.

This one comes from a kind stranger and led me to Brooke Schmidt, who I find very inspirational aesthetically. Here poem and stitched stone are sweet gestures.

Finally a treasury that makes me yearn for a road trip. It doesn't however make me yearn to work in a motel again...ever.

Give these treasuries some views, clicks and hearts and check out Tuesdays Treasuries each week on the Rochester NY Etsy Street Team blog.

Swag Bag Goodies

Countdown to Mayday Underground Crafts + Art starts now! I have approximately 3 weeks to finish a few more pieces until the big day. I hope everyone will come out to this show. It just keeps getting bigger and better!

One perk of going and showing up early is a chance to grab a (FREE) swag bag. I have lovingly donated some vintage matchbook notepads for the occasion. Many more will be made for sale along with new magnetic matchbook bookmarks. (That's a mouthful. I'll have to think about how to name those for Etsy.) I've also added a little marketing strategy by stamping my Etsy address on each item ;)

Be sure to check out my booth (EARLY) along with many other talented artist from Rochester and beyond on April 30th!

6 x 6 x 2011 Entry

My Etsy shop has been taking a slight backseat to teaching this month (budget and scheduling season), BUT I did take the time to submit my entry into the Rochester Contemporary Art Center 6x6x2011: Global show. I love tons of tiny, colorful things together on a wall, so I jumped on the chance to do this latest installment of this show.

I created a special 6"x6" matchstick painting, Spring III, for the show.

Here are all of the official details from http://www.roco6x6.org/ (see also the application):

6x6 began as a small fund-raising project, but has grown into an international art phenomenon. Last year over 5,000 artworks from 43 US States and 22 Countries were entered in this exhibition!

6x6x2011: Global is the fourth exhibition of thousands of original artworks, made and donated by celebrities, international & local artists, designers, college students, youths, and YOU. Each artwork must be 6x6 square inches and signed only on the back, to be exhibited anonymously. All artworks will be for sale to the public for $20 each (at RoCo and online) to benefit RoCo.
